Congratulatory Remarks: Chong-Bum Ahn (President of Policy Evaluation Research Institute) / Ik-woen Lee (CEO, EDAILY)

The 2024 EDAILY-PERI Special Symposium commenced with welcoming remarks from Chong-Bum Ahn, President of the Policy Evaluation Research Institute(PERI) and Ik-Woen Lee, CEO of EDAILY.

Following this, congratulatory remarks were delivered by Sang-Mok Choi(Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs), Seok-Hoon Kang(Chairman & CEO of Korea Development Bank, KDB), and Sang-Eun Lee(Chairman of The Korean Social Security Association, Professor of Social welfare, Soongsil University)

This year’s symposium holds significant meaning as it was conducted in collaboration with three research institutions (Brookings, IRP, MDRC), whose world-renowned researchers have conducted extensive, tailored research for Korea, the results of which are being presented at this event. Based on the presentations and discussions, future collaborative research with these three institutions is also planned. Among them, Brookings will continue comparative studies between South Korea and the United States through the development of the “Korean Government Budget Game” presented at this symposium, with plans to expand this work to other countries.

Moreover, the policy alternatives for Korea presented at the symposium are expected to be immediately reflected in policy decisions, as former ministers in relevant fields, research institute directors, academic representatives, and current deputy ministers contribute their insights during the ensuing discussions.

In his welcoming address, Chong-Bum Ahn, President of the Policy Evaluation Research Institute(PERI), emphasized the significance of the event, stating, “The EDAILY-PERI Symposium is not a one-time event. It represents a new form of symposium where collaborative research outcomes, matured over more than eight months with world-class researchers, are discussed among top experts from academia, government, and research circles, shared with the nation and global academia, and continuously debated and developed.”
