On January 20, 2023, the Policy Evaluation Research Institute (PERI) releases the first PERI Book as the first installment of its policy series, titled “Fooled by Politics, Crying Over Taxes: Tax Populism.”
The book simplifies complex and challenging tax policies for the public utilizing historical stories and examples to make them accessible and engaging.
PERI publishes the book to shed light on the unfortunate reality that the public is often misled by politicians’ tax strategies (‘tax populism’), resulting in the public bearing the brunt of the consequences.
The objective of this book is to delve into individual cases of tax populism victims and propose solutions to prevent people from falling prey to misleading tax politics and subsequently lamenting over taxes.
The country’s finances are rapidly deteriorating in a short period of time due to a string of populist policies by politicians, passing the financial burden onto the people. PERI’s mission is to help people comprehend this reality and make informed decisions.
Within this book, PERI presents 11 tax policy reforms essential for navigating the populist era in the political sphere.
